Bike & Spa Academy: New Cross-Border Cycling Route Between Slovenian and Austrian Thermal Resorts
How can cycling offer connect thermal spas, local providers, gastronomy, and experiences into an attractive tourism product? What opportunities does the linking of cross-border destinations bring for the development of active and sustainable tourism? These questions will be addressed at the workshop Joint Cycling Route Between Slovenian and Austrian Thermal Resorts and Opportunities for Provider Involvement.

Within the framework of the cross-border Bike&Spa SI-AT project, partners from Slovenia and Austria are developing a new integrated cycling product connecting thermal destinations in Pomurje, Podravje, and the Austrian Vulkanland region. The project links 12 thermal providers (six in Slovenia and six in Austria) and opens up numerous opportunities for the involvement of local experience providers, gastronomy, accommodation, and other tourism services.
The event will focus on presenting the joint Bike&Spa SI-AT cycling route, opportunities for provider cooperation, and the development of new experiences for active travellers. Special emphasis will be placed on connecting cycling, thermal, wine, and gastronomic offerings, as well as on designing healthy wellness-oriented meals and experiences for the modern cycling guest.
As part of the programme, participants will explore:
✨ development of joint promotion between Slovenian and Austrian destinations,
✨ needs and expectations of the modern cycling guest,
✨ trends in wellness cuisine and outdoor tourism,
✨ opportunities for creating authentic experiences for different visitor profiles,
✨ use of artificial intelligence and sustainable approaches in tourism.
A special guest of the workshop will be Mojca Polak from the Faculty of Tourism at the University of Maribor, who will present guidelines for preparing healthy wellness meals and conduct a live demonstration of a wellness snack preparation, including a tasting session.
The event is intended for providers of cycling, accommodation, thermal, and other tourism services, tourism organisations, and all those who wish to enhance and promote their offer in connection with active tourism. The workshop represents the first in a series of six meetings dedicated to the development of a joint cross-border outdoor and wellness offering.
