PlaceCRAFT Study Visit to Slovenia: Learning from Local Practices in Heritage Revitalisation
Ravne na Koroškem, October 2026 – Iskriva Institute, as a lead partner of the CAST project, is hosting a study visit to Slovenia as part of an exchange between the European projects PlaceCRAFT and CAST, both funded by the Interreg Danube Region Programme, from 20-22 October 2026. The visit brings together partners interested in learning from inspiring examples of industrial heritage revitalisation, community-led development and sustainable tourism.
The revitalisation of the Old Ironworks in Ravne na Koroškem was selected by PlaceCRAFT as a good practice, offering an opportunity to explore how industrial heritage can become a catalyst for community engagement, new economic opportunities and the wider transformation of a small town. The programme also introduces participants to other Slovenian initiatives, including examples of nature-based tourism and cross-border cooperation.
The exchange will culminate in a knowledge-sharing event at the Old Ironworks, bringing together partners from PlaceCRAFT and CAST to discuss common challenges, share practical experience and explore new approaches to placemaking, local investment and sustainable community development.
The visit builds on Iskriva Institute’s long-standing cooperation with KÉK – Contemporary Architecture Centre in Budapest, the lead partner of PlaceCraft, and reflects the value of international exchange in connecting local experience with new ideas, partnerships and opportunities for the future.
