Ulm, 7. July 2026 – Mateja Softić, Co-founder and Co-creator, Iskriva Institute, represented Iskriva Institute at the Danube Future Works² conference in Ulm, Germany, organised within the framework of the New European Bauhaus on the Danube Lab Germany. The event that focused on emerging governance systems brought together experts, policymakers and practitioners from across the Danube Region, to explore how the principles of sustainability, inclusion and quality of place can support regional development and community-led transformation.

The conference focused on sharing inspiring examples from the Danube Region and discussing how successful local initiatives can be further developed, connected and scaled up.

Mateja presented the results of the four-year revitalisation process of the Old Ironworks in Ravne na Koroškem, highlighting the journey of transforming an important industrial heritage site into a space for new ideas, collaboration and creative development. As pointed out in her presentation, the first results of the revitalisation process showcase the potential of this new cultural and knowledge centre, with over 5,000 visitors and over 120,000 € revenue generated in the region in the first months of delivering the programme of the Old Ironworks. However, going forward, the key focus is setting up an effective governance and business model that will ensure long-term operational and financial viability of the place. Possible business models were discussed with peers from the Danube region and will provide valuable input going forward with the development of the place. The conference also provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen existing connections and establish new partnerships that can support the future development of activities and the business model of the Old Ironworks.
