Cazin and Novi Travnik, 27–31 October 2025

Mateja Softić and Zdravko Kozinc travelled to Bosnia and Herzegovina, visiting Cazin and Novi Travnik to explore opportunities for sustainable and innovative projects. During the trip, they also followed the inspiring Travelling Academy initiative within the NONA – New Governance for New Spaces project, which connects young people, mentors, and local communities in the search for innovative urban planning solutions.

Cazin

The NONA project’s Travelling Academy took place in Cazin. Students and mentors from Germany, Bulgaria, and Croatia explored the town and developed proposals for the revitalisation of public spaces. The NONA project promotes the redesign of the city centre according to the principles of the New European Bauhaus, while the NONA network helps teams identify and secure funding to implement sustainable urban solutions. The collaboration between young participants, mentors, and the local community was truly inspiring!

Novi Travnik

The visit concluded in Novi Travnik, where they took part in an introductory meeting with the municipal administration team. They presented the town’s development challenges – a place that emerged after World War II on the foundations of the metalworking industry. Today, Novi Travnik is building a new development narrative that draws on its rich industrial heritage, UNESCO-protected cultural heritage, and unique architectural and monumental legacy.

Mateja Softić and Zdravko Kozinc expressed their enthusiasm about the possibilities for jointly creating new development stories and collaborating on sustainable projects that strengthen local communities and deliver innovative solutions for the future.
